Forever Family

So many wonderful people have enriched my life with gentle lessons, pep talks, and encouragement. And for that I am truly thankful. Looking back some 20 years ago when I began this radio journey there were plenty of people who taught me what to do. Yes, I graduated from the University of Georgia, but I learned radio at WXAG AM 1470 in Athens Ga.
Lee King Hill gave a young college kid a chance.  It was at WXAG I learned how to run a clock, cue up records, splice a commercial with a razor blade, voice it and mix in the music beds.  And that was because of cool people like Robert Mitchell, Uncle Jam, took me in the studio and showed me step by step. And others like JW with "the roots of the blues" , would just encourage me with sage advice and stories of the Big Markets.
Those were some good ole radio days.  Mike Roberts actually listened to my air checks and encouraged me along the way.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I didn't get here on my own. I did work hard (four part time jobs and a full college load) . It took a whole lot of prayers and wishes for me to be able to do what I do.  And in that spirit, I would like to introduce you to some
children who desperately need someone to help them along life's way.

I want you to meet Forever Family.
Forever Family, as the name implies, is about surrounding children with the love of a family. We do that with 3 main programs in Atlanta
and an expansion program in Louisville, Ky.

Below is a new video that explains what we do.

Forever Family's After School Program we tutors, mentors and feeds the children of Heritage Station Apartments. We have a Georgia Certified Teacher as our Atlanta Program Coordinator. She has designed a curriculum for our after school program as well as oversees all our Atlanta programs.

Prison Visits. We continue with our primary function of connecting children to their Mothers in prison. This is why Forever Family exists. Research has shown that children of imprisoned parents are 5 times more likely to end up in prison.  It can become a vicious cycle and Ff is succeeding at breaking that cycle.  We currently have 3 program graduates in college and they are the first in their families to do so.

ATL Academy.  About Teen Life Academy.  This began when we noticed the older kids in our programs needed something more. They took the initiative and created and produced a teen summit called ATL - About Teen Life. It was something the Forever Family teens did on their own.  This year Ff turned ATL Academy into a leadership academy over a 10 week summer program.  The teens visited 5 college campuses, had an overnight camping trip, toured 4 professional workplace tours, And helped with Forever Family's After School programs. They toured WSB too.

Fathers Visits Louisville. Ff has expanded to Louisville, KY and is working with reuniting fathers with children.  We are celebrating our second year of re-unitng fathers to their children in Louisville.

I am so pleased, and very proud with the work we have done.  Forever Family (formerly AIM) has been helping Georgia's children for over 25 years.  I have been a Board Member since 2006 and have recently accepted the position as Chairman of the Atlanta Advisory Board. These are non paid positions and all board members volunteer their service.  We oversee  the financial aspects of this organization so I can assure you all  donations will be spent on programs for the children.

I encourage you to support this organization in whatever capacity you may see fit.  If you desire to make a monetary donation please click here.  You will be taken to a secure website  that we use to process credit cards.   I have personally used this site before.
If you are using the  to purchase tickets for an event please note that in the comments box.
