Royal Marshall is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia, class of 1992, with a BA in Speech Communications. After graduation he worked as an intern with WVEE Atlanta V103 for two years. While working as in intern, Royal produced the Ryan Cameron Show including the Top 8 at 8, he was also working overnights as a board operator at WSB Atlanta AM 750.
In 1993 Royal began running the board with the newly hired talk show host Neal Boortz on WSB Am. Neal interacted with Royal on the air and eventually allowed Royal to have his own “Minute with Royalt” as part of the Neal Boortz show. Soon in 1995 Royal earned a full time position at WSB Am. The following year his show “The Royal Treatment” debuted on WSB AM, airing from 10pm till 1am on Saturday nights. After one year and tremendous ratings the show was moved to Sunday Afternoons.
In 1998 “The Royal Treatment” was moved to a sister station in order to be a daily show instead of weekends only. The Treatment aired Monday thru Friday from 4p till 6pm, on 680 WCNN AM, and it was a ratings hit. The station had not enjoyed ratings that high in almost 10 years. Guests included Larry King, Hosea Williams, Billy McKinney, Ruby Dee, Ozzie Davis, MC Hammer and many more celebrities and authors.
In 2000 the Royal Treatment was moved back to WSB AM at night from 9pm till 11pm. Sandwiched in between Hawks, Braves and UGA Basketball broadcasts, The “Treatment” was still able to make it’s mark on Atlanta. Royal created Local Politician Night on WSB. LPN, as it was called, was held the first hour of every Monday night’s show and featured local politicians debating the issues. The purpose of LPN was to familiarize the audience with their local elected officials. It was a hit. Soon LPN became know as the hour where troubled politicians would be put on the spot and forced to explain whatever controversy at hand.
In January of 2005, (the day after the King Holiday) the Royal Treatment was cancelled on WSB and replaced with a syndicated radio show hosted my Michael Savage. Royal continues to work with Neal Boortz on the nationally syndicated Neal Boortz Show.
The Boortz show is heard in over 150 cities across America and has been Atlanta’s number 1 rated radio show for the past 5 years.
Royal is filling his nights now with stand up comedy. He took a comedy class and has been working the crowd from room to room. Royal and stand up are like fish and water. You can see Royal at the Punchline and other Atlanta comedy clubs.
Royal is married and is the proud father of Amira Wesley Marshall Born May 28th, 2006.
